The Sonic comes with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine which makes 138 horsepower at 125 pound-feet of torque in a five-speed manual, upgradable to a six-speed automatic, rated at 28 mpg. The turbo-charged engine gets the same horsepower, but offers a tad more torque (148 lb-ft of torque). For a small car, the Sonic has plenty to offer.
